Stratford Police Website Redesign

The overview

As part of a small team of four, I had the opportunity to participate in a design contest to revamp the Ontario Stratford Police Services' website and create a companion app. The challenge was deciding how to portray a serious yet modern and friendly look for the Stratford Police. Without being too colourful or unconventional, we created two style tiles to consolidate our choices of fonts, colours, etc.

My ROLE

For this project, I was the UI developer in our team.  During the design phase, our UX designer and I gathered and analyzed our client's needs.  I discussed implementation feasibility with our team members on each design and decided on this modern and clean design.  In the development phase, I provided technical feedbacks to our team and made slight changes to the code, taking into account that our client had limited technical resources, and made it easier for future maintenance.

The Takeaways

Throughout this project, I have learned how to communicate effectively with clients who have little knowledge in design/coding. As well, I have learned that the importance of usability is much greater than visual appeal, and it is important to take into consideration of the clientele knowledge and preferences when designing and creating content. Since it was a large project, I learned how to manage projects in an agile fashion.
